Asthma-Causes, Symptoms and Treatments

Asthma is considered to be a chronic disease which can be very serious and even life threatening. Up to this time, there has no cure for this disease. It is a disease related to lungs which makes it difficult to inhale the air and exhale the air out of the lungs. This disease can attack people with any age groups. Sometimes it happens that the young people develop this disease at an early age but the symptoms of asthma go away when their lungs develop. However, there is much possibility that this disease come back again later in life.

Causes of this Disease

The real cause of this disease is beyond recognition. This disease is seen in families and also may be inherited. Environmental factors play a very vital role in the development of asthma. Some of the causes of this disease are:-

  • Allergies

Some people have higher possibility of developing an allergy as compared to others especially if their parents are suffering from the allergy. These allergies lead to this disease.

  • Environment

Environment is also a big factor behind this disease. A person who is in contact with certain irritants, exposure to the viral infections and allergens has higher possibility of suffering from this disease.

  • Respiratory Infections

A person who is suffering from the respiratory infections can catch this disease. These respiratory infections catch an individual at an early age. The damage which is caused in early childhood can affect the functions of the lung in long term.

Symptoms of Asthma

  • Chest tightness

In this situation, it seems that anything in sitting or squeezing on a person’s chest.

  • Breathlessness

The people who have asthma have a problem of shortness of breath which can be very risky and life threatening for them.

  • Wheezing

This is a whistling sound which occurs when you take breath.

Treatments of Asthma

Some of the treatments of asthma are as follows;-

  • Leukotriene modifiers

These types of oral medication such as zafirlukast, zileuton, montelukast are very helpful in relieving the symptoms of asthma.

  • Combination inhalers

These medications have long acting beta agonists which can sometimes increase your chances of having a serious asthma attack.

  • Theophylline

Theophylline pills are very helpful in keeping the airways open by relaxing the muscles which surrounds the airways.

  • Inhaled corticostreroids

These medicines have fewer side effects and are generally considered safe for longer time.

To treat asthma beforehand is very important as it can snatch an individual’s life if it affects this individual in a serious way.
